Obituary

Betty Lou Harlow, 87, of Rogers, Arkansas passed away Monday, December 1, 2025 in Rogers. She was born August 8, 1938 in Wichita, Kansas to the late William and Elizabeth Hieden Berryman. Betty graduated from Pittsburgh State University in Pittsburgh, Kansas where she majored in Physical Education. She had a passion for sports, which led her to play catcher for the softball team at Pittsburgh State University. Betty later received a Master's Degree at The University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She loved teaching and most of her years were spent as a Special Education teacher. On June 17, 1959, Betty married Robert "Bob" Dean Harlow in Wichita Kansas. Bob served honorably in the United States Navy, which took them many places before they settled in Rogers. In addition to raising their two sons, Bob and Betty owned a successful campground. Together, they built a beautiful home on Beaver Lake where they loved to boat. Betty loved reading her books while Bob fished. Her love for reading was the joy of her childhood and she often talked about receiving books in the mail from her Aunt Louis, who loved to spoil her as the only grandchild on her mother's side of the family. Betty's paternal grandmother, referred to as Muskogee Ann, lived with them. At eight years old, Betty taught her grandmother how to read. This became her inspiration to becoming a teacher. Betty and Bob always had a house full of friends; their table became a place where no one was left hungry. They would sit for hours sharing stories of their beautiful lives and experiences together. At Betty's side, there was always a dog or two and a cat hiding somewhere in the house. She always had a love for animals. Growing up, her dad spoiled her with horses, rabbits and dogs. She continued to ride horses as an adult, spending her time outside where she shined. She loved to garden. Her lawn was always beautiful. Betty was a proud member, of the local garden club for many years. After retiring, Betty continued to volunteer in classrooms teaching students about birds, plants and sharing her love of literature. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Dean Harlow and her son, Kenneth Scott Harlow.

She is survived by son, William Bryan Harlow and nephew, Anthony "Tony" Castaldi, both of Springfield, Missouri along with numerous other beloved family and friends.
