Obituary

Mr. Clifford Brooks, age 90 of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015, at Siloam Springs Nursing and Rehab. He was born August 14, 1924, in Gurley, Nebraska to Theodore and Ora Brooks. Mr. Brooks graduated from 8th grade in Gurley, before his family moved to Bakersfield, California where he graduated high school in 1942. Mr. Brooks attended Northwest Christian College in Eugene, Oregon for Ministerial studies where he graduated in 1948, and served several student pastorates while in college. In 1954 he moved to Iowa to attend Drake University Divinity School in Des Moines, Iowa, where he graduated in 1959, and served as pastor to churches in Goldfield and Panora, Iowa. He then moved to Anaconda, Montana in 1959 and ministered the First Christian Church until 1969. He then served a mutual ministry between the First Christian Church and the First Baptist Church in Butte. He served a Christian-Baptist Federated Church in Mountain Home, Idaho from 1980,to 1985. He served a Christian Church in Douglas, Arizona from 1985 until he retired in 1992. Mr. Brooks then moved to Siloam Springs, Arkansas, in 1992. He taught at John Brown University for 10 years as a Red Cross volunteer and had classes in Instructor Trainee for Water Safety Instructors and Lifeguard Trainees. He also taught Red Cross classes and trained instructors in the Siloam Springs area and served as the Health and Safety Coordinator and Aquatic Consultant. He also worked with the swimming team at John Brown. He was a active supporter of all sports at John Brown University. He was active in Rotary working locally and at the District level with the Youth Exchange and Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. Mr. Brooks was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Brooks, and brother, Gerald Brooks. Mr. Brooks is survived by his daughters, Jan Henderson of Iowa and Jeri Cook of Montana, sons, Michael Brooks of Montana and Robin Brooks of Washington, brothers, Oran Brooks of New Mexico and Robert Brooks of Oregon and sisters, Emma Nelson and Letha Smith of California. Memorial service for Mr. Brooks will be held Thursday, April 23, 2015, at Grace Episcopal Church in Siloam Springs, Arkansas.
