IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David John
Myers
July 23, 1940 – December 5, 2024
David John Myers, 84, of Garfield, Arkansas, passed away at his home on Thursday, December 5, 2024. He was born on July 23, 1940, in Pueblo, Colorado, to the late Lawrence and Dorothy Shultz Myers.
David retired from the corporate world of software engineering and as a business owner in 2000 to pursue his calling to become a Deacon in the Episcopal Church, where he was ordained in 2003 at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral, Kansas City, Missouri. He served as a hospice chaplain for North Care Hospice, Kansas City, Missouri, as well as a deacon at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Lee's Summit, Missouri. In 2006, David and his wife, Susan, retired to their lake home in Northwest Arkansas. He then served as deacon at St. Thomas A. Becket, Cassville, Missouri, and chaplain at Mercy Hospital in Cassville. After retiring from the Episcopal Diocese of Western Missouri, he joined the Episcopal Diocese of Arkansas and served as a deacon at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Rogers, Arkansas, until his death.
While serving eight years as a volunteer chaplain at the Benton County Detention Center, he founded the garden program, which involved the inmates. This program provided them with valuable skills in gardening, which helped them to reenter the workforce in related areas. David was very proud of the program's success and the decrease in returning offenders.
During his spare time, David enjoyed spending time with family and friends, riding bikes, gardening, working on various DIY projects, and carrying on his father's love of woodworking, that included crafting custom furniture. He was a lifelong learner and avid reader of history and theology.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his son, Eric Myers, and two brothers, Lawrence and Lance Myers.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Myers; two daughters, Kirsten Tharp and her husband, Robert, and Alison Myers-Arenth and her husband, Craig; three granddaughters, Hannah Tharp, Arianna Myers-Arenth, and Lulu Myers-Arenth, along with many other beloved family members and friends.
A memorial service celebrating Chaplain Myers' life will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 28, 2024 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Rogers, Arkansas.
A memorial fund in David's name has been established at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. Anyone wishing to make a donation can send them to the church.
