Obituary

Donald Eugene Messersmith, 90, of Bentonville, Arkansas passed away Sunday, June 1, 2025 in Bentonville, Arkansas. He was born on August 12, 1934 in Guthrie County, Iowa to the late Raymond Messersmith and Norma Messersmith. A proud Korean War veteran, Mr. Messersmith built a diverse career as a cook, roofer, truck driver, and people greeter at Walmart for over 20 years. He always provided for his family with quiet strength. He was a devoted member of the Bentonville Masonic Lodge and Bentonville Order of the Eastern Star, exemplifying brotherhood, charity, and integrity. He cherished his roles as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather across five generations, leaving a legacy of love, hard work, and community service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary May Holloway, Charles Messersmith; daughter-in-law, Debbie Messersmith; great-grandsons, Juan Cruz Manrriquez and Adrian Manrriquez.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Rosemary Messersmith, of the home; sons, Donald Messersmith Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of Springdale, Arkansas, William Messersmith, of Cave Springs, Arkansas, David Messersmith and his wife, Lisa, of Rogers, Arkansas; nine grandchildren, including twenty great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Martha Van Eaton, of Menlo, Iowa, Dorothy Korradi, of Menlo, Iowa, Charlotte Greenbeck, of Woodbine, Iowa, Donna Egan and her husband, Michael, of Waukee, Iowa, Linda Smith and her husband, Mathew, of Creston, Iowa; many other family and friends.

Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 2025 at Oakley Chapel United Methodist Church, 1801 South Dixieland Road, Rogers, Arkansas, with visitation from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
