Horace Theldred “HT” Means passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026, with his beloved wife, Jane, by his side. He was born May 10, 1942, at Saint Frances Hospital in Monroe, Louisiana. HT was the youngest of four children and went by the nickname “Cookie” as a child.HT served honorably with the US Navy in the Pacific Fleet as a Petty Officer Second Class. He served on the USS Markab during the Vietnam War, working in the E-RC Engineering Department. After completing his service, HT used his skills acquired in the Navy to work for Pacific Bell.
Later, moving to Texas, he worked for Southwestern Bell in downtown Dallas. He was quickly promoted to the supervisor level. When Bell became part of AT&T, he worked for AT&T until he retired and even continued working on a contract basis.
After retirement, HT moved to Bella Vista. He loved the changing of seasons and the opportunity to play golf with the beautiful scenery. He was an avid Ham Radio operator and enjoyed communicating across the globe. He participated in many emergency events with other HAM radio activists. He taught himself both how to build equipment for his Ham radio and how to use Morse code. HT was a tinkerer. He could fix anything...or at least try. You could always find him at his radio desk or fiddling away on some project in the garage.
A man of deep faith, HT was an active member in his church. From building maintenance to finances, he humbly supported the church with his talents. As a counter for Holy Trinity Lutheran, he helped develop an online spreadsheet to organize funds and even created a training guide for his successor.
HT was preceded in death by his parents, Horace Earnest Means and Mary Gladys Means (neé Humphries); his sisters, Eunette Marie Goff and Margaret Gibson; and his brother, James Ernest Means. He is survived by his wife, Alice Jane Means (neé Borg); his daughters, Lisa Means (Connie) of Texas and Felicia McComas (Andy) of Tennessee; his grandchildren, Mateo Means, William “Chase” McComas, Lauren McComas, and Evan McComas; sister Janie Means Ruff of Arkansas, and many nieces and nephews.
