IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ida Sue
Howland
December 5, 1925 – November 30, 2022
Ida Sue Howland, resident of Siloam Springs, Arkansas went peacefully to her heavenly home on the morning of November 30, 2022 at The Bungalows of Springdale with her cherished daughter, Toni, by her side. She was born December 5, 1925 to Anton and Susie Petkus in Waukegan, Illinois.
Ida started her musical career in school where she joined the Waukegan high school choir. Being an expert pianist, her choir director drafted her to accompany the choir, also. She sang in the Lithuanian choir along with her mother and sister and performed in the United Service Organization entertaining our troops. She sang in the Waukegan Philharmonic and performed in multiple local theater productions over a 20+ year period, often as the female lead. When Ida's daughters competed at solo and ensemble contests in junior and high schools, Ida accompanied them on the piano along with many other students. While in her 30s, she was recruited to attend Northwestern University so she could sing the lead role in the televised opera, Falstaff. She did all this along with being the choir director at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Grayslake, Il for several years.
Ida had many different jobs over the years but her favorite was being a real estate agent. She loved helping people find or sell their homes and getting to know each of her clients. She won awards for having the highest sales in her company several times in her career. Upon retiring from real estate, she and her husband Phil moved to Florida spending their time pursuing their passion of golf. In 2012, after the death of her husband, Ida moved to Arkansas to be close to her family. Her family was her biggest passion by far.
Ida will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 47 years, Phil Corso of Apopka, Florida in 2011, her daughter Cheri Pantel of Mt. Ida, Arkansas in 2015 , her sister Jay Babnik and 3 brothers Stanley Petkus, Tony Chapas, Vince Petkus, all of Waukegan, Illinois.
She is survived by her daughter Toni (Ted) Barnett, her granddaughter Darci (Mark) Stoll and grandson Derek (fiancé Stacy) Stickels, great grandson Jackson (Mieckalah) Stickels and great granddaughters Madisyn (Eric) Harris, Autumn Stoll, and Allie Stoll. Also, the families of Ericka Payne, Nick Barnett, Erin Lewis & Trevor Barnett.
Funeral services will be held at Grace Episcopal Church on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grace Episcopal Church Choral Scholarship.
