J.D. "Johnny" Thomas, age 74, a resident of Grove, Oklahoma and formerly of Bentonville, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2011 at the Grove Nursing Center in Grove, Oklahoma. J.D. was born in Swain, Arkansas on January 8, 1937 to Albert N. and Laura (Sandlin) Thomas. J.D. served his country in the United States Army and worked as a machinist for Sperry Vickers in Joplin, Missouri for many years. J.D. enjoyed hunting and fishing and was active with the Masons and Shiners organizations. Preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Albert Aaron Thomas; J.D. is survived by his domestic partner, Lela Slankard of the home in Grove, Oklahoma; three sons, Jay Dee Thomas of Westville, Oklahoma; Joe Thomas of Bentonville, Arkansas; Frank Thomas of Afton, Oklahoma; one daughter, Brandy Thomas of Galena, Kansas; three brothers, Dwight Thomas and wife Judy of Rogers, Arkansas; Jerry Thomas of Rogers, Arkansas; Carl Max Thomas and wife Vickie of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Graveside Inurnment services will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Hiwasse, Arkansas. Online tributes to the family of J.D.
