Obituary

Joel Dean Smith, 82, of Pea Ridge, AR, died on January 11, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born on May 7, 1941, in Estherville, Iowa, to the late Victor and Lillian Woith Smith. Joel and his wife returned to Arkansas in 1999 after selling The Wheelhouse restaurant in Seagrove Beach, FL, of which he was the owner and operator for 13 years. His passion for cooking kept him in the restaurant business for nearly 30 years.

An avid Razorback fan, one of Joel's fondest memories was traveling to Hawaii with his wife, Jayne, accompanying the Razorback basketball team in the late 1970s. He remained a dedicated fan until the very end, listening to the games from his hospital bed. He was known for his sense of humor and quick-witted remarks.

Joel was preceded in death by his loving wife of 41 years, Jayne Beekman Smith, and his siblings Jalene Bridenbaugh, Gene Smith, Darlene Bremer, Shirley Smith, Ed Smith, and Dallas Smith.

Joel will be missed and remembered by his children and their spouses: Gregg and Regina Smith of Panama City Beach, FL; Brian and Sarah Smith of Bella Vista, AR; Stephanie and David Self of Gunter, TX; grandchildren, Hunter, Keslee, Forrest, Fisher, Carter, Remi, Saylor, Lydia, Boone, Zeke, and Nora; and his great-grandchildren.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Autumn Place Independent Living in Pea Ridge, Arkansas, where he resided for the last 5 years.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Benton County Memorial Park & Funeral Home at (479) 636-2412.

Memorial donations can be made to a food/hunger charity of your choice.
