Kathryn Rinella, age 100, died at the Ashley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rogers, Arkansas on December 14, 2010. Kathryn was born in Harvey, Illinois to parents John and Katie Romer. She attended Thornton Township High School and worked as the cashier for the Von's Family Grocery store. She married Albert Rinella, also of Harvey, Illinois in February of 1932 and had two children, James R. Rinella and Karen Jo Rinella. The Rinella's moved to Costa Rica in February of 1940, where Albert was employed by the U.S. Government, Department of Public Works, to work on the construction of the InterAmerican Highway, a landlink to the Panama Canal, preceding World War Two. This assignment led to a long residency in Costa Rica, spanning 36 years, where they enjoyed international living. For health reasons, they returned to Largo, Florida, so that Albert could be closer to the medical facilities he required. Kathryn was preceded in death, by her parents, John and Katie Romer, an older brother, Mathew Romer, an older sister, Josephine Peterson, her daughter, Karen Torres and her husband Albert. After a total of 30 years in Largo, Florida, she moved to the Apple Blossom Independent Living Facility in Rogers, so as to be closer to her son. In August of 2009, after a brief hospitalization, she moved to the Ashley Nursing and Rehabilitation facility. She is survived by her son James and daughter in law Michele, of Bella Vista, four grandchildren, Patricia Burd, Joanne Torres, Joe Torres, John Torres and four great grandchildren, Tiffany Burd, Karen Burd, Wesley Burd and Gabriela and Christina Torres. Cremation arrangements are with Benton County Memorial Park Funeral Home of Rogers, interment will be at a later date at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Largo, Florida.
