Obituary

Leslie Allen Watson Jr. lost his battle with his failing lungs in the loving care of the staff at our local VA Hospital in Fayetteville, Arkansas on Friday afternoon, November 4th, 2016. Born in Akron, Ohio on October 3, 1936 to Leslie Allen Watson and Elsie Charlotte Atkins, Les was an avid outdoorsman, photographer, furniture maker and poker player in his leisure time. He could tell stories all night about his fishing trips to Canada, his weeklong float trips down the Buffalo River and deer hunting. Earning his Masters from the University of Arkansas may have been an excuse to get closer to the Razorbacks' athletic programs as he was also a big fan of the Hogs. His professional life seemed to center around children more often than not - teacher, principle, councilor, administrator, and at times an independent business owner. His last five decades called Hackett, Fort Smith, Van Buren and Springdale home. Living most recently in Centerton, Arkansas, Les had an extended family in the neighborhood. A father to some, grandfather to others and a friend to all, they were as much of his daily life as anyone and he shared a special bond and love with them all. But that was Les, he never met a stranger, chased a fish he couldn't catch, or failed to make those near him a part of his life. With 10 brothers and sisters he has family spread far and wide. He loved and was loved by so very many from the Watson family tree. He is survived by a brother, Donnie; a son, Tracy Watson and his fiancé Shelley Stormes; two stepdaughters, Vickie Needham and Teresa Haralson and her husband Robert; two grandsons, Ryan Watson and his son Eli, and Spencer Watson and his wife Allison, and their son Reece and daughter Camille. You will be missed by these, their loved ones and so many more. Swift journey dad, I love and miss you. Per dad's wishes there will be no ceremony. Dad's ashes will be laid to rest in the Fort Smith National Cemetery. Dad wanted no flowers, plants or donations. His wish was for everyone to drink a toast to his name and memories shared. I can be reached at twatson@esmingredients.com or PO Box 2392, Alma, AR 72921 if anyone wishes to share a story, photo, or has any questions about dad.
