Obituary

Lorraine Kinney Ray, age 91, of Bentonville was born in Omaha, Nebraska, October 13, 1921 and died in Bentonville September 23, 2013. She moved with her mother, Esther Kinney Tinsley and her step-father, Cam Tinsley to Rogers in 1936 and attended Rogers High School until moving to Winfield, Kansas where she graduated from Winfield High School and attended Southwestern College. In 1940 she married Rhad "Ed" Ray who preceded her in death in 1997. During her husband's World War II military service, she was employed as Night Chief Operator with Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company in Pas Robles, California; later she was transferred to the Rogers office of Southwestern Bell while her husband Ed served a tour of overseas duty in Europe. After the couple was transferred by Bell Telephone Company to Bentonville in 1953, she served as a Girl Scout leader, a Sunday School teacher for 18 years at First Methodist Church, a Beta Sigma Sorority president in chapters both in Rogers and Bentonville, a member of a Federated Women's Study Club, and as a full time Public Schools Substitute Teacher for 20 years. At First Christian Church in Bentonville, she served as a Deaconess, Official Board Member, chaired various committees, and served as the Church Historian until retiring in 2000 after 15 years. She was also a member of the Bentonville Elm Tree Christian Church. Survivors include one daughter, Connie Ray; one granddaughter, Miranda Linder; two great granddaughters, Brianna and Brittany. Celebration of Life services will be 4:00 pm, Sunday, October 13, 2013 at the First Christian Church Chapel in Bentonville. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Village House Adult Day Program of Bella Vista 1801 Forest Hills Boulevard, P.O. BOX 3027, Bella Vista 72715.
