IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Miemmie
Joubert
November 20, 1924 – November 23, 2025
Miemmie Joubert, born Miemmie Niemand, was born on November 20, 1924, in Springs, South Africa, and passed away peacefully in Bentonville, Arkansas at the remarkable age of 101.
A devoted homemaker her entire life, Miemmie poured her whole heart into caring for her family and creating a home where love was felt the moment you walked through the door. She was married to Jacobus Joubert, and together they built a life grounded in faith, humility, resilience, and unwavering dedication to family.
She was a cherished mother to her daughters, Elizabeth Venter and Ann Pretorius. She also leaves behind her son in law, Yan Venter who looked after her for the last 30+ years, and Giles Chippindall who was Ann's life partner. Her beautiful legacy continues through her beloved grandchildren, listed from oldest to youngest: CJ Venter, Reynette Smart, Gene Fourie, Maryka Pretorius, and Reghardt Pretorius, and through her treasured great-grandchildren: Makaila "Gabi" Sharp, Gabriel Venter, Dahnika Mulder-Venter, Maximus Venter, Major Venter, and Marceau Venter. Miemmie never drove a car — something the family often teased her about lovingly — but she delighted in telling stories of her childhood on the farm, riding on a donkey cart. In her younger years, she was a gifted athlete and loved to run, a reminder that her quiet spirit was also filled with strength and determination. To know Miemmie was to know her kitchen and her pantry — places filled with warmth, comfort, and the sweet smell of love in the form of baked goods. No matter what time of day or night you arrived, there were always fresh cookies and rusks waiting. Her Vetkoek (fried bread with mince) and her slow-braised oxtail were legendary within the family, recipes so special that, to this day, no one has come close to recreating them. Some of the most cherished moments were when she and Jacobus traveled to visit family. While Grandpa believed in stopping only for gas, Miemmie lovingly prepared a bountiful "travel basket" — packed into a large round cookie tin and separated by wax paper — filled with meat pies, baked chicken drumsticks, boiled eggs, homemade bread sandwiches with leftover pot roast, little meatballs, and always a two-liter bottle of sweet rooibos tea. When they arrived, everyone gathered with hugs and laughter, joyfully competing for the first taste of Grandma's treasures.
Miemmie also possessed an extraordinary talent for crocheting. As long as her family can remember, there was always a project in her hands — each stitch a quiet prayer, a labor of love given to family and friends. No matter how modest her own means, Miemmie always found a way to bring joy to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, even if it was with a small chocolate tucked into their hands. When she desired something for her home or room, she would patiently save each penny until she could pay for it in cash, then ask to be taken into town to carefully choose the perfect piece. She lived simply, honorably, and with great dignity.
This remarkable lady always looked as though she had stepped out of a magazine — graceful, neat, and composed — but it was her heart that made her extraordinary. Kind, gentle, generous, and deeply loving, she was adored everywhere she went. Many came to know her as the very definition of the perfect grandmother. That was our Miemmie — and for that, she will always be remembered.
"The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit." — Psalm 34:18
Though she will be deeply missed, her warmth, her stories, her laughter, and her love will continue to live on through every life she touched.
