IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mildred Harviell
Heyne
August 21, 1931 – January 31, 2026
Mildred (Millie) Harviell Heyne, 94, passed away Saturday, January 31, 2026, in Rogers, Arkansas.
Millie, born August 21, 1931, was the youngest child of Eugene and Matilda Harviell of St. Louis, Missouri. Despite being born at the beginning of The Great Depression, Millie retold many stories of happy times spent with her two older sisters in Forest Park, the St. Louis Art Museum and the Muni Opera. She attended St Louis public schools, graduating with honors from Soldan High School in 1948, where she was named girl athlete of the year in both her junior and senior years. During high school, she worked at the candy counter at Famous Barr, and upon graduation, she joined Bland and Company where she worked until the birth of her first child.
Millie met Walter, her spouse of seventy-two years, at a Walther League weekend at Camp Arcadia in 1952. They were married in St. Louis in 1953.
Millie was an enthusiastic gardener, avid reader, and creative seamstress, knitter, flower arranger and designer of greeting cards. Despite the demands of rearing three children, Millie found time to volunteer at hospitals, schools and churches every place she lived, play duplicate bridge, golf, and tennis and write about recipes for The Rogers Daily News. She achieved a life-long dream when she earned an associate's degree from Northwest Arkansas Community College in May 1996. She remembers her time at NWACC and the invitation to join PEO Chapter U as important highpoints of her adult life.
Her children remember her as a willing chauffeur, an enthusiastic cheerleader of their various activities, a great reader of bedtime stories, a wonderful role model of what it means to be a kind and loving sibling or friend and a loving, supportive mother.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings and her daughter Miki. She is survived by her husband, Walter; her children: Gail Heyne Hafer (Rik) and her son, Marty Heyne (Kathleen); her son-in-law, Wallie Winholtz; granddaughters: Caitlin Hafer (Richard), Grace Heyne Lybrand (Kevin) and Callie Heyne Eberspeaker (Eric) and great grandchildren: Margot and Clark Lybrand and Graham and Meryl Eberspeaker.
