Obituary

Roy W. Ahner, age 96 of Rogers, AR, formerly of Sterling Heights, MI, passed away November 20, 2011 at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale. Roy was born May 9, 1915 near Upham, North Dakota to William Ahner and Paula Pfau Ahner. He grew up in North Dakota and as a young man enlisted in the United States Navy. Roy had a long career in the Navy, serving on active duty for 6 years and in the reserves for 14 years. He was on the crew of the USS Utah during the attack on Pearl Harbor and retired as a Chief Petty Officer. Roy worked for Ford Motor Company in Detroit over 29 years. In 1949 Roy was united in marriage to Margaret Gartner Weiss in Detroit, Michigan. They enjoyed over 58 years of marriage. Roy was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the VFW. After retiring from Ford Motor Company, he moved to Hale, Michigan where he farmed and was very active in the community. Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret in 2008, his parents; step daughter, Ann McArthur; step grandson, John McArthur; brother, Thomas Ahner and one sister, Alice Wahl. He is survived by a step granddaughter, Cynthia Stachowiak and husband Larry of Utica, Michigan; three sisters, Verna Wahl, Minot, North Dakota, Ethel Peterson, Seattle, Washington, Marian Elledge, Athens, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A memorial service with military Honors is set for 2:00 P.M., Friday, November 25, 2011 at the Benton County Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel, 3800 W. Walnut Rogers.
