Obituary

Terry Lynn Barns, 76, of Bentonville, Arkansas, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville. She was born on November 16, 1946, in Hollywood, California, to her father, the late George Ware Tracy III and her mother, Grace Leontine Stampfly Tracy. Terry was the eldest of five siblings, her three brothers, Steve, Ted, and Kerry, and her sister, Connie. Terry was known for her strength and independence throughout her lifetime, and her love of all things purple. She had a "green-thumb," and adorned every home of hers with many plants. She had a passion for baking from scratch, and cooking home-made everything. She will always be remembered as a "great cook," and a wonderful home-maker. She found comfort in bird watching, especially of hummingbirds, in gardening, and in memories of her family members, who captured her everyday thoughts. She was proud to tell people about her accomplishments in life, like modeling in her younger years, and how she was once a cheerleader for the San Diego Chargers football team. She often remarked on her life experiences like her half-acre vegetable garden, her appreciation for canning home-grown fruits and vegetables, remodeling many homes, and re-roofing an entire house all on her own. She was a frugal woman, and proud of her ability to save money even under the toughest of circumstances. She enjoyed helping others in need whenever she was able, and giving gifts brought her much joy and fulfillment. Above all, she loved her family very much, and spoke of them often.

Terry was preceded in death by parents, George and Grace Tracy; her oldest brother, Steven Tracy; her middle daughter, Cynthia Barns. She is survived by three of her children, her eldest daughter, Tammy Tompkins of California, son, Scott Barns and wife, Kyleen Barns of California, and her youngest daughter, Shannon McLaughlin and husband, Tyler McLaughlin of Missouri. Terry's legacy continues through her children, her nine grandchildren, Dylan Tompkins, Amanda Tompkins, Parker Tompkins, Gabriel McLaughlin, Nathaniel McLaughlin, Cali McLaughlin, Mason Barns, Kennedy Barns, and Kadon Barns, her great-granddaughter, Blair Tompkins; and a host of beloved family and friends.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Benton County Memorial Park & Funeral Home, (479) 636-2412.
