The American funeral has changed more in the past few years than in the prior fifty. It used to be that the “Traditional Funeral” was pretty much the same. It consisted of a wake or visitation period, which lasted anywhere from one to three days, followed by a church or chapel service and burial in the cemetery. Yet today, there may be no such thing as a “Traditional Funeral”. People are choosing funeral services that are more reflective of the person and fit the lifestyle of the family. And with more and more ethnic groups living in our community, traditional funerals now incorporate many of the customs and ceremonies from different cultures. In any given year, we conduct funeral services for Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox, Jewish, Buddhist, Muslim, and Hindu families, not to mention those that opt for non-religious, humanistic services. Given the diverse group of families that we serve and the different options that we provide, there are many choices available when it comes to a funeral.
To give our client families and friends some guidance in selecting a funeral service that is meaningful, we have put together answers to questions about different types of funeral options. See More
A graveside service is a simpler, often smaller funeral that is held at the graveside as opposed to a chapel or church. The visitation is usually held at the funeral home on the evening before the service. See More
Really, the only difference between these services is whether or not the body is present. A funeral service and a grave side are conducted with the presence of the body and a memorial service is conducted in memory of the person, without the presence of the full body. To learn more about memorial services, visit our cremation section of this guide. See More
A Twilight Service is a service held between the hours of 5:00 PM and 9:00 PM. It may be selected from either burial or cremation arrangements. Depending on the daylight available, the families and their guests may attend the Committal Service following the Chapel or Church Service. We understand that many employers only allow personal leave from work to attend services for the closest of family without any loss of wages. The Twilight Service allows everyone to attend and celebrate the life of that Special Person without disruption of work. Family and friends can now attend the visitation, service and interment at a time that meets their needs. In addition the family faces absolutely no additional cost from the Funeral Home.
